Academic Stuff

Here I am with Nancy Coory, who inspired my thesis script, Development-the-movie

In March 2013 my autoethnographic activism and academic work are less important to me than they have been for a long time.

I've taken what I've learned and moved forward with my play Throat of These Hours, about poet and activist Muriel Rukeyser (1913-1980) and two women in a Wellington radio station. I'm gearing up to finish and transform Hemingway's, my serial for the 2011 Rugby World Cup, which I refer to in some of the media convergence posts, as Grace Notes. I want to continue with various fictional and hybrid experiments, which I group together in my Looking Like Sean Connery blog, especially more comics like Mouse.

But most of the narratives I work on are about how women can tell their stories and how media convergence may offer us new opportunities to do this, so all of this creative work is built on the theorising in my PhD, supported by my supervisors and my fellow PhD students; and these media convergence posts. The media convergence posts ask what elements are necessary in and unique to a particular story-telling form and what aren’t. They and my own work explore reasons to write and produce a film rather than a play or a game or a book of essays or comic or a collection of poems; and how to reach audiences. And in turn, my writing and other art work questions what I wrote as part of the theorising.
